Not sure whether to go at high or low tide? Here's what each actually looks like.

High Tide (Best for Most Visitors)

  • Water depth: 2-4 feet 
  • Water color: Emerald green - this is the Crab Island you see on Instagram
  • Crowds: peak demand, book early if planning ahead

Low Tide

  • Water depth: 1-3 feet
  • Water color: Yellowish/brown tint, but usually still clear visibility
  • Activity: Can be quieter outside peak season (May - Aug)

Our recommendation: Aim for high tide if it occurs during available cruise times, but don't worry if high tide is at midnight or you know your group would do better with a morning/afternoon cruise. The time of day and who you cruise with are equally important.

How long does high tide last at Crab Island?

High tide typically lasts about 2–3 hours around its peak. The best window is roughly 1 hour before to 1 hour after the listed high tide time.

Can you go to Crab Island at low tide?

Yes, you can still have a great time at low tide. Water is shallower (1–3 feet in spots), may be murkier, and fewer vendors and boats are usually present. Low tide can be good for families with very small children who want ultra-shallow water.

Does the tide chart change every day?

Yes. Tides follow a lunar cycle and shift by roughly 50 minutes each day. That's why checking the chart before your visit is important — yesterday's "best time" is different from today's.
